It's Time To Face The Music
the healing and motivational qualities of music
I have traveled abroad quite a bit and what I found is the common thread between all persons on this earth is music. Sheet music is the same here as it is in China, Russia Africa everywhere. Music is our common language. Music moves our souls. It can inspire, motivate and even relax us. Most of us are moved by its power to portray love, angst, sorrow and rage. It reflects a whole range of emotions we have all felt at some point in our lives. It is a reflection of us and the times.
There are neuroscientists who are working to discover exactly why music has healing powers. The Max Planck Institute for Brain Sciences in Leipzig and Sussex, England has uncovered a connection between listening to cheerful music and the suppression of cortisol a damaging stress hormone and increased production of immunoglobulin A, an antibody in the immune system.
At the University of Hawaii, eye surgery patients responded with improved vital signs to live classical music in the operating room. After all, it's pretty amazing that it can stimulate certain areas of the brain, speed healing, and decrease anxiety and increase optimism.
There are different components to music that can have an effect. Pitch, harmony, frequency, melody, and rhythm all affect the brain in different ways. We know that some of the brain locations are involved in helping to heal and soothe the body as well.
The brain can be taught and stimulated to perform better -- and it seems that music is the perfect vehicle to do that. So [FIRST_NAME] if you find your soul is thirsty for some good music make a playlist, turn up the speakers and let the healing begin.
YOUR MIND
Freedom Requires Responsibility
Max Steingart
Freedom is the right to live as you wish.
If you wish to free yourself from enslavement, you must chose freedom and the responsibility it entails.
There is a price for every freedom, something to be given up for every liberty.
Its up to you to weigh the price you must pay for each of your freedoms. And everything you want has a price.
Freedom is the opportunity to make decisions. Its the capacity to take a hand in your own development.
Freedom is the right to choose. Its the right to create for yourself the alternatives of choice.
No one is free who is not master of himself.
You are free to do whatever you would like. You need only face the consequences of your actions.

YOUR BODY
Keeping a Health Heart
four habits to keep it pumping
It's almost Valentines Day, and hopefully you are feeling loved! The heart in the human body functionally serves as a circulation pump with an electrical impulses, using sodium, potassium, and calcium contracting the muscle and sending blood, oxygen and vital nutrients all through out the body. Heart disease is a huge problem in America, being the number one killer, with an approaching 600,000 people dying each year. [1] Heart disease encompasses multiple afflictions and diagnoses, such as congestive heart failure, congenital heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and coronary heart disease. [2] Many health problems, like heart disease, can be avoided with diet and lifestyle. However, there is another component to good health, beyond the well known basics. Imagine a triangle, and in one form of medicine, Applied Kinesiology [3] , there is what is referred to as the “Triad of Health”. The foundation of this triangle is on the “structure” of the body, with the sides comprised of “chemical and mental”. It is is the realm of the “mental or emotional” category that can be a largely overlooked component of heart disease. Cardiologist Dr. Mimi Guarneri highlights all the hearts different aspects in her book The Heart Speaks. [4] Do these 4 things regularly for a healthier and happier heart and life.
1. Let Go! Emotions can be overwhelming, and may get bottled up. What happens when pressure adds? You will get an EXPLOSION if you don't express your feelings! Don't go there, by daily trying to release the hardships you endured. Talking or journaling can be an outlet, or exercise. Find something that works for you. Consider Emotional Freedom Technique, or otherwise known as tapping, which is a quick and easy tool that has profound effects. [5]
2. Follow your passion! Do you feel a sense of fulfillment in your life? What gets you “lit up”? Doing what you love is like spiritual food for your heart. Either in your work life or outside of that, connect with an activity that you enjoy regularly. If you love to dance, and its been a while, turn up the music at home on an evening after work. Don't put off the simple pleasures that put a simile on your face.
3. Forgive and stop worrying! We all experience feelings of resentment at one point or another, to others or even ourselves. Holding on to this is toxic. We just have this moment to live, and often we are either in past or future. Realize that each person in any given moment is doing the best they can, and if you've been hurt, don't keep on hurting yourself with reliving that situation for the past. Talk with a professional or trusted friend to help you through life's challenges.
4. Do the basics! It is the basic lifestyle habits that create a compound effect that will lead you to health or away from it. Don't use tobacco, eat plenty of vegetables, eat fruit for dessert, and exercise.

The Strength of Compassion
Coming at Conflict with an Open Heart
by Madisyn Taylor
Conflict should always be met with open ears and an open heart.
Conflict is an unavoidable part of our lives because our beliefs and modes of being often contrast powerfully with those of our loved ones, acquaintances, and associates. Yet for all the grief disagreements can cause, we can learn much from them. The manner in which we handle ourselves when confronted with anger or argument demonstrates our overall level of patience and the quality of our energetic states. To resolve conflict, no matter how exasperating the disagreement at hand, we should approach our adversary with an open heart laden with compassion. Judgments and blame must be cast aside and replaced with mutual respect. Conflict is frequently motivated by unspoken needs that are masked by confrontational attitudes or aggressive behavior. When we come at conflict with love and acceptance in our hearts, we empower ourselves to discover a means to attaining collective resolution.
The key to finding the wisdom concealed in conflict is to ask yourself why you clash with a particular person or situation. Your inner self or the universe may be trying to point you to a specific life lesson, so try to keep your ears and eyes open. Once you have explored the internal and external roots of your disagreement, make a conscious effort to release any anger or resentment you feel. As you do so, the energy between you and your adversary with change perceptibly, even if they are still operating from a more limited energy state. Consider that each of you likely has compelling reasons for thinking and feeling as you do, and accept that you have no power to change your adversary’s mind. This can help you approach your disagreement rationally, with a steady voice and a willingness to compromise.
If you listen thoughtfully and with an empathetic ear during conflict, you can transform clashes into opportunities to compromise. Examine your thoughts and feelings carefully. You may discover stubbornness within yourself that is causing resistance or that you are unwittingly feeding yourself negative messages about your adversary. As your part in disagreements becomes gradually more clear, each new conflict becomes another chance to further hone your empathy, compassion, and tolerance.
