Breath In Your Day Deeply
how simply breathing can nourish your body and soul
In sanskrit, the word for breath is the same as the word for life - prana. The first thing you do as you enter this world is to inhale. Your last act in this life is to exhale. When prana leaves the body, we die. The breath is a metaphor for life energy. The breath is seen as an important link between our body, our mind, and our spirit - moving from the purely physical realm, to the mental, to the spiritual.
Breathing is important for two reasons. It is the only means to supply our bodies and its various organs with the supply of oxygen which is vital for our survival. The second function of breathing is that it is one means to get rid of waste products and toxins from the body.
Oxygen is the most vital nutrient for our bodies. It is essential for the integrity of the brain, nerves, glands and internal organs. We can do without food for weeks and without water for days, but without oxygen, we will die within a few minutes. If the brain does not gets proper supply of this essential nutrient, it will result in the degradation of all vital organs in the body. Oxygen is critical to our well-being, and any effort to increase the supply of oxygen to our body and especially to the brain will pay rich dividends.
Breathing is so simple and so obvious we often take it for granted, ignoring the power it has to affect body, mind and spirit. With each inhale we bring oxygen into the body and spark the transformation of nutrients into fuel. Each exhale purges the body of carbon dioxide, a toxic waste. Breathing also affects our state of mind. It can make us excited or calm, tense or relaxed. It can make our thinking confused or clear.
When you begin your day take in a deep breath and take in the moment.
Thank you for your patronage.
Success Is Just Around The Corner
Every situation, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity. But you have to act on them if you're going to be successful.
Distant pastures always look greener than those close at hand, but real opportunities are right where you are. You must simply take advantage of them when they appear. You can start where you are at any time.
Success is all around you. It's not in your environment, it's not in luck or chance, or in the help of others. Success is in yourself alone.
You don't need more strength or more ability or greater opportunity. What you need is to use what you have. Learn to seize good fortune, for it is always around you.
You must go to success, it doesn't come to you.
Open your own doors to opportunity.

10 Reasons to Warm Up
warm muscles are supple muscles
Tempted to skip your warm up? Don't! Your warm up is an important part of your exercise routine. Here are 10 vital reasons for starting out with a warm up and not taking shortcuts!
- Increases degradation of oxyhemoglobin. In lay person's terms, warming up helps break down the chemical complex of oxygen, which enables it to separate from the blood and enhance its delivery to the muscle.
- Increases body temperature. Warming up reduces the potential for muscle and connective injuries.
- Increases blood flow to exercising muscles. The more blood that reaches the muscles, the easier the delivery of nutrients required for energy production.
- Increase blood flow to the heart. More blood to the heart means a reduced risk for exercise-induced cardiac abnormalities.
- Decreases muscle viscosity. Hey, if viscosity is bad for your car engine, it's not any better for your muscles. Warming up enhances the suppleness of the muscle.
- Help promote sweating. Remember: sweat is good. Sweating reduces the amount of heat stored in the body. Your body spends more energy cooling itself than through any other activity.
- Enhances the speed of transmission of nerve impulses. Motor faculties improve greatly when you're warmed up. Need proof? Get out of bed and run to the front door. You'll probably bump into something, or worse, fall down. If you walked to the front door, and stretched. You could run like the wind.
- Increases the blood saturation of muscles and connective tissue. Sounds messy. In reality, the more blood reaching the muscles, tendons and ligaments, the better the elasticity of these tissues. Which means better performance and reduced chance of injuries.
- Prepares the cardiovascular system for impending workload. Helps the heart and blood vessels adjust to the body's increased demands for blood and oxygen.
- Prepares muscles for impending workload. Warming up may reduce the likelihood of excessive muscle soreness.

Reflections of Self
We Are All Mirrors for Each Other
When we look at other people, we see many of their qualities in innumerable and seemingly random combinations. However, the qualities that we see in the people around us are directly related to the traits that exist in us. "Like attracts like" is one of the spiritual laws of the universe. We attract individuals into our lives that mirror who we are. Those you feel drawn to reflect your inner self back at you, and you act as a mirror for them. Simply put, when you look at others, you will likely see what exists in you. When you see beauty, divinity, sweetness, or light in the soul of another, you are seeing the goodness that resides in your soul. When you see traits in others that evoke feelings of anger, annoyance, or hatred, you may be seeing reflected back at you those parts of yourself that you have disowned or do not like.
Because we are all mirrors for each other, looking at the people in your life can tell you a lot about yourself. Who you are can be laid bare to you through what you see in others. It is easy to see the traits you do not like in others. It is much more difficult to realize that you possess those same traits. Often, the habits, attitudes, and behaviors of others are closely linked to our unconscious and unresolved issues.
When you come into contact with someone you admire, search your soul for similarly admirable traits. Likewise, when you meet someone exhibiting traits that you dislike, accept that you are looking at your reflection. Looking at yourself through your perception of others can be a humbling and eye-opening experience. You can also cultivate in you the traits and behaviors that you do like. Be loving and respectful to all people, and you will attract individuals that will love and respect you back. Nurture compassion and empathy and let the goodness you see in others be your mirror.
No Added Sugar Roasted Chicken with Sweet Plum Sauce
Total Servings 4
Serving Size 1 quarter chicken
Carbs Per Serving: 1 g
Prep Time:<60 minutes
Skill Level: Moderate
Sweet plum sauce can be found in the Asian section of your supermarket. It’s the same sweet, slightly tart, jam-like sauce that some Chinese restaurants give you to dip your fried egg rolls in. This sauce is wonderful paired with pork chops, chicken seared duck breast or a simple grilled fish. The only problem with Plum Sauce is all the sugar it contains. Up to twice as much as soda pop. Here is an awesome and east to make recipe with Plum Sauce that is exotic and delicious but, without all the added sugar.
1 whole chicken
1/4 cup sweet plum sauce (see below)
1 head of garlic, halved
1 lemon, quartered
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1/4 cup sweet plum sauce to serve at table
Prepare plum sauce (see below) and set aside.
Rinse chicken and cut away extra fat.
Pat dry with paper towels inside and out.
Place in shallow baking dish and rub softened butter all over chicken, tucking just a bit under the skin of breast.
Season generously with salt and pepper outside and inside cavity.
Stuff with garlic and lemon.
Tie legs of the chicken together, slather sweet plum sauce all over chicken.
Set breast side down.
Let sit 30 minutes at room temperature.
Preheat oven to 450F.
Roast chicken 20 minutes.
Turn breast side up, lower temperature to 375F and return to oven.
Continue to roast another 45-60 minutes, brushing with additional sweet plum sauce towards the end.
You may have to loosely tent with tin foil if skin is approaching maximum crispiness (i.e. don’t burn the skin.)
Chicken is done when juices run clear as knife tip is inserted into chicken thigh. Thickest part of thigh without touching bone should register 170F.
Let chicken rest 10 minutes before carving.
Serve with a side of sweet plum sauce for dipping.
