Crossing The Great Divide
celebrating and embracing our differences

The world we live in today is such a rapidly changing place. For some of us change comes more quickly and we are better adapted to welcoming in change. For those who are unable to embrace change they can be swept away and left behind. When some folks change and others don't, there becomes a great division. These divisions have boiled to the surface recently as rich, poor, conservative, liberal, black, white, gay and straight; this list can go on infinitum. This was brought to the forefront with the recent coverage of the escalation of bullying and the resulting suicides of some youths.

It is important to let your children know if they witness bullying to be proactive and get an adult involved. Standing by and allowing bullying to transpire makes us complicit.

Please consider in the week ahead to see our differences as attributes that make us unique and special. We can celebrate that we live in a world where we can each be different and unique without judgments. Embrace these differences in yourself and others. But most importantly, recognize that we all one people and one race - the Human Race. We really are in this together.

Have a sensational week!

YOUR MIND

Success Is Based On The Choices You Make
Max Steingart

Your success isn't a matter of luck, it's simply a matter of the choices you make.

Success isn't something you can wait for, it's something you'll achieve with effort over time. But, things won't turn up in this world until you turn them up.

You can choose to be lazy or ambitious. Stop and think about your choice again.
You always do your own choosing.

The great opportunity in your life is where you are right now. Every situation, properly perceived, is an opportunity for you.

First, say to yourself what you would be, and then do what you have to do to make things happen.

Being successful is a choice you make.

Simple Methods For Cutting Back on Sugar
easy ways to go from thick to thin

OK… so you have a sweet tooth and he has called in his friends. Never fear help is on the way. Here's some advice for cutting down on sugar

Avoiding Teenage Waist Land
If kids are allowed to develop a preference for sweet foods, they may end up eating a high-calorie diet that can lead to excessive weight gain. This can result in more complicated problems, including diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. Too many sweets can also cause tooth decay and unhealthy gums.

Because of a decade-long obsession with low-fat consumption, we have managed to fill our store shelves with food that's fat-free but loaded with sugar. The result is a steady increase in the amount of sugar eaten inadvertently through processed foods. We eat on average 19 teaspoons of sugar per day, whether it's incorporated into foods by manufactures or added themselves. And as people become accustomed to sugary foods, companies have to make new products even sweeter. It becomes a vicious circle.

Hidden Sugars
While you may be aware of the sugar you do - or do not - add to foods, are you aware of the hidden sugar found in many products? From tomato soup to hot dogs, sugar can be found in the in most processes foods.

Sugar provides few nutrients, so processed sugars should only be a very very small part of a balanced diet. The time is now to develop new food preferences for the natural taste of unprocessed, unsweetened foods.

Here are a few suggestions that may help you to reduce sugar in you and your family's diet:

Don 't ban sweets altogether: try a sprinkling a litte Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder on oatmeal or a teaspoon of maple syrup on winter squash.

Become a careful label reader: The sugar listed on the nutrition label is a combination of the naturally occurring sugar and the added sugar. If you spot the ending '-ose' on a word, it could be a sugar in disguise. Examples are sucrose and glucose. Other common ingredients that are sugar in hiding include syrup, honey, brown sugar, fruit juice concentrate and high-fructose corn syrup (not to be confused with crystalline fructose which is low glycemic).

Don 't make desserts a regular part of every meal: Save them for special occasions or weekend treats. Buy breakfast cereals only if sugar is not one of the top listed ingredients.

Reduce the sugar called for in baking: Sugar can often be reduced by up to one-third and replacing it completely with Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder.

Serve alternatives to sugar: Whole grain breads or muffins.

Top cereal with fresh fruit, Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder

Use fresh fruit, Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder to sweeten plain yogurt: Pureed banana mixed with plain yogurt is great for a toddler treat.

Make your own frozen treats: Just freeze fruit juices with Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder.

Create smoothies: Blitz plain yogurt with banana and fresh fruits and Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder for delicious homemade smoothies.

Make your own soft drinks: All you need is soda water or a Soda Stream (which I love) and your choice of fruit juice or flavorings mixed with Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder.

YOUR SPIRIT

Embracing Change Through Awareness

Life is a journey comprised of many steps on our personal path that takes us down a winding road of constant evolution. And each day, we are provided with a myriad of opportunities that can allow us to transform into our next best selves. One moment we are presented with an opportunity to react differently when yet another someone in our life rubs us the wrong way; on another day we may find ourselves wanting to walk away from a particular circumstance but are not sure if we can. Eventually, we may find ourselves stuck in a rut that we can never seem to get out of. We may even make the same choices over and over again because we don’t know how to choose otherwise. Rather than moving us forward, our personal paths may take us in a seemingly never-ending circle where our actions and choices lead us nowhere but to where we’ve already been. It is during these moments that awareness can be the first step to change.

Awareness is when we are able to realize what we are doing. We observe ourselves, noticing our reactions, actions, and choices as if we were a detached viewer. Awareness is the first step to change because we can’t make a change unless we are aware that one needs to be made in the first place. We can then begin understanding why we are doing what we are doing. Afterward, it becomes difficult not to change because we are no longer asleep to the truth behind our behaviors. We also begin to realize that, just as much as we are the root source behind the causes for our behaviors, we are also the originator for any changes that we want to happen.

There is a freedom that comes with awareness. Rather than thinking that we are stuck in a repetitive cycle where there is no escape, we begin to see that we very much play a hand in creating our lives. Whether we are aware of them or not, our behaviors and choices are always ours to make. Our past and our present no longer have to dictate our future when we choose to be aware. We are then free to move beyond our old limits, make new choices, and take new actions. With awareness, our paths can’t help but wind us forward in our lives while paving the way for new experiences and new ways of being. It is through awareness that we can continue to consciously evolve.

YOUR RECIPE

Coconut Chia Pudding - No Added Sugar Low Glycemic
Total Servings 2
Serving Size 1 cup
Carbs Per Serving: 16.5 g
Prep Time:<20 minutes

Skill Level: Super Easy

I ordered to Chia seeds from our friends at Nutiva. When we got them… I was like, what do we do know. Chia seeds look a little like poppy seeds but when you put them in water they swell and become gelatinous sort of like flax but not has slimy. The people of the ancient Aztec and Incan empires revered chia seeds as vital nourishment and frankly so do we at Steviva Brands. These mighty non-gluten seeds, are packed with Omega-3, protein, rare antioxidants, fiber and are considered a super-food.

The longer you soak the chia seeds, the softer they become. I found them perfectly edible after about 20 minutes of soaking, but they do have a tiny bit of a “crunch” to them. Leaving them overnight in the refrigerator will render a soft and delicious pudding that is almost thick enough to stand a spoon up in. If you've never been a big fan of tapioca pudding, this probably isn't for you. But if you are, this makes a really awesome low glycemic dessert or breakfast meal. Feel free to get creative with different spices and fruits!

Ingredients:
1/4 cup whole chia seeds
1 cup any kind nut milk, real milk or water
3 tablespoon unsweetened coconut milk
a few dashes cinnamon
¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract
a pinch of salt
1 tablespoon Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash of Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder
Diced fresh fruit to top (optional)

Instructions:
Place the chia seeds in a bowl or covered container.
Blend or mix the milk, unsweetened coconut milk, cinnamon, vanilla, Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder and salt.
Pour this mixture over the chia seeds and stir well.
Let it soak on the counter for at least 20 minutes until thickened, or cover and soak in the fridge overnight.
Stir again before serving, and top with fresh fruit and another dash of cinnamon or spices.
Enjoy!
