Take A Day To Make A Better You
self improvement is the catalyst for greater happiness and success

Do you ever feel like you need a kick in the seat-of-the-pants? A push in the right direction? Perhaps you need a boost in morale or need some attitude adjustment. Try giving yourself a self-development day.

Benefits of a self-development day
1. You reprogram yourself for optimism
2. You feel better, refreshed and ready to seize the rest of the week
3. You knock out some minor tasks you’ve been procrastinating
4. You’ll be more organized for the days and weeks to come.

The way I’ve done this in the past is I’ve picked one or two self-development/motivational audio programs that I would listen to nonstop for a whole day. I put on some headphones and do some long-delayed cleaning and filing. At the end of a day like this, I am feeling much more positive, more organized and a lot more energized about how I am going to deal the rest of the week.

So why does this work so well? The simple reason is constant exposure. If you have ever attended an program by Anthony Robbins, Dr. Wayne Dyer or similar speakers, you probably felt pretty good about yourself and your future after the day was complete. Constant exposure to new motivational ideas prevent the little negative thoughts (gremlins) from taking hold so easily. For lack of a better word, it’s healthy brainwashing.

Best of all, this method is simple to do. Just pick a day, and choose a few self-development audio programs. Prepare some repetitive or routine work and get to listening. Don’t stop until the end of the day!

Here are some tips:

1. Pick audio programs where you feel you’ll learn something or reinforce behaviors you want to preserve.

2. Make sure the day you choose is one where you can either be alone or where you can listen without people interrupting.

3. Choose titles that can get you moving in new and better directions.

4. Mentally approach your self-development day listening time with a sense that you will learn something.

5. Set aside a full day, where you can do stuff like clear your desk, your office closet, dust, file…choose simple tasks such as organizing so you can focus on the audio messages.

6. Also, keep the computer and TV off. This is self-development day, not surf day.

7. It’s also not audio-book day, so don’t choose novels.

8. If you find yourself bored with the message, keep the CDs rolling. If your mind drifts, let it drift. Just keep it rolling. It’s likely the next chapter will snag you. If not, you are still getting something.

Some ideas for what to do while you listen can include filing and tossing out old papers. Remove all the books from your bookcase, dust them and put them back. Clean and arrange your desk drawers. If you typically take a break, this time take a break and go for a walk.

A self-development day is an Investment in you. This is self indulgent YOU time, this is for your health and mental well-being. You will surely get many ideas during this day and will probably feel a great sense of motivation and drive when the day is over.

Have a sensational week ahead!

YOUR MIND

Vision is the Art of Seeing The Invisible
Max Steingart

You don't need an explanation for everything.
Recognize that there are such things as miracles,
events for which there are no explanations.
Later, knowledge may explain those events quite easily.

The fact that you can plant a seed and it becomes a flower,
share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's,
smile at someone and receive a smile in return are common miracles.

Your duty to yourself is to believe that for which you have sufficient evidence,
and to suspend your judgment when you have not.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Some things have to be believed to be seen.
Don't believe in miracles, depend on them.

YOUR BODY

A Pleasing Personality
three traits of optimal aging

Of the many factors that make up our health and weather it is good or bad, our personality and outlook on life aren't often discussed. Discussed in "The Okinawa Program" personality is associated with longevity, which has been studied and shown that there are key characteristics that are linked to having better health. Ask yourself ands someone close to you if some of your traits include being: " easygoing, cheerful, self-confident, adaptable, active, independent, creative, happy, relaxed, satisfied, calm, open, agreeable, conscientious, sociable, and having a high tolerance for frustration" ? There is a newer field of science that studies the connections of the mind, stress, and our immune system, called psychoneuroimmunology, which has verified that stress not only has negative effects on our mental health but our immune function as well.

The premise of the book came through 25 years of research with the Okinawa Centenarian Study, which was sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Health. Interestingly what they found that made a pleasing personality of the "oldest old" Americans were three characteristics culminated into having a "resiliency of character". The three traits for healthy aging:

1. Self-confidence: Do you tell yourself "I can do this!" Or are you a "I can't" type of person? Do you doubt yourself? Do you limit your abilities?

2. Independence: Can you rely on yourself? Are you a self motivator? Do you think for yourself?

3. Strength of Will: Do you have discipline? Is perseverance in your personality? Do you have the strength to carry out your life plan?

Question yourself and put your personality in check, mate!

YOUR SPIRIT

Peeling Away Your Layers
finding our true self through self exploration

Trees grow up through their branches and down through their roots into the earth. They also grow wider with each passing year. As they do, they shed the bark that served to protect them but now is no longer big enough to contain them. In the same way, we create boundaries and develop defenses to protect ourselves and then, at a certain point, we outgrow them. If we don’t allow ourselves to shed our protective layer, we can’t expand to our full potential.

Trees need their protective bark to enable the delicate process of growth and renewal to unfold without threat. Likewise, we need our boundaries and defenses so that the more vulnerable parts of ourselves can safely heal and unfold. But our growth also depends upon our ability to soften, loosen, and shed boundaries and defenses we no longer need. It is often the case in life that structures we put in place to help us grow eventually become constricting.

Unlike a tree, we must consciously decide when it’s time to shed our bark and expand our boundaries, so we can move into our next ring of growth. Many spiritual teachers have suggested that our egos don’t disappear so much as they become large enough to hold more than just our small sense of self—the boundary of self widens to contain people and beings other than just "me." Each time we shed a layer of defensiveness or ease up on a boundary that we no longer need, we metaphorically become bigger people. With this in mind, it is important that we take time to question our boundaries and defenses. While it is essential to set and honor the protective barriers we have put in place, it is equally important that we soften and release them when the time comes. In doing so, we create the space for our next phase of growth.

YOUR RECIPE

Low Glycemic Barbecue Chicken and Coleslaw Potato Skins
Total Servings 16
Serving Size 2 potato skins
Carbs Per Serving: 6.6 g
Prep Time:<90 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Ingredients:
8 (3-inch-long) russet potatoes (about 2 1/4 pounds), scrubbed and thoroughly dried
2 cups roasted chicken, shredded into bite-size pieces
2/3 cup Trinity Hill Farms No Added Sugar Barbecue Sauce
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/4 stick), melted
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup sugar free coleslaw find the recipe here: http://recipes.steviva.com/recipe/sugar-free%2C-low-glycemic-kfc-coleslaw

Instructions:
Heat the oven to 400°F and arrange a rack in the middle.

Pierce each potato several times with a fork or sharp knife. Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack and bake until the skins are crisp and a knife easily pierces the potatoes, about 50 minutes.

Transfer to a wire rack until cool enough to handle, about 10 minutes. Set the oven to the broil setting.

Place the chicken and 1/3 cup of the barbecue sauce in a medium bowl and stir to combine; set aside.

Slice each potato in half lengthwise. Using a spoon, scoop out the flesh, leaving about 1/4 inch intact; reserve the flesh for another use.

Brush the insides of the potatoes with the melted butter and season with salt and pepper. Flip the potatoes over, brush the skin sides with butter, and season with salt and pepper.

Evenly space the potato halves skin-side up on a baking sheet and broil until the butter foams and the skins start to crisp, about 2 to 3 minutes (keep a close watch so they don’t burn). Flip the potato halves over and broil until the top edges just start to brown, about 2 to 3 minutes more.

Place a heaping tablespoon of the shredded barbecued chicken in each skin, then drizzle about 1 teaspoon of the remaining barbecue sauce over the chicken. Place the skins in the broiler and broil until the chicken is hot and the sauce has darkened slightly, about 4 to 5 minutes.

Remove from the broiler and top with coleslaw.

Serve immediately.
