Strategies to keep your weight down over the holidays
It may be a piece of pie that you crave during the holidays. Whatever it is, if you have a plan for how many calories you want to consume and burn each day, it will be easier to figure out how to enjoy your treat without letting it go to your waistline.
Estimate how many calories you will burn each day, and then how many you want to eat. If you’re not up to losing weight during the holidays, make it your goal not to gain any.
Plan your meals, snacks and activities for the day. Then, when adding a treat, calculate how many calories it has and fit those calories into your day without going over your limit.
You can accomplish this in one of three ways:
1. Cut calories from your meals.
2. Add an activity to your day to burn more calories.
3. A combination of the above.
If you cut calories, be sure you don’t skip a meal or snack. And if you add an activity, be sure you don’t use it as an excuse to overindulge.
With a little extra planning, you can enjoy the holidays and your treats, without gaining weight. It’s a piece of cake!
