three things to do while on vacation
The sun is shinning and the heat is on. Summer is here and to be celebrated. With celebrations come occasions which puts us out of our usual routine: trips to the beach, weddings, bbq's, and other travel. By usual routine, this means healthy eating, workouts, taking supplements and other things that we do for our own health and well being. Someone once said that it takes 3 weeks to form a habit, and only 3 days to break it!
If you are going on that upcoming vacation, do your best to maintain your healthy habits. Remember it is the consistency in life that we take with our actions, that will compound into the effect we are looking for. Perhaps you started walking, lifting weights, or decided to cut out sugar, or start taking fish oil, all of these habits, will take some time to show their results, just as a seed planted in a garden needs time to sprout and grow.
Here are 3 things to do while you're away to keep breaking healthy habits at bay:
1. Do at least 15 min of fitness: Depending on location and what is around you, remember you don't need a gym to get in some exercise. 1 minute of holding Plank (push up position, with staying in hovering position), 15 push ups, 30 jumping jacks, 30 sit ups, and 15 tri-cep dips can all be done in a small space with just a chair to do the dips on, repeat this sequence. Walking counts too!
2. Take one supplement: If you are taking a dietary supplement(s) that have been recommended to you by a health care provider, dose out the days that you would need and take in a pill-box or small plastic baggie. Keeping up with your compliance will allow the benefits to kick in. Avoid taking things that need refrigeration (fish oil and probiotics) if that will cause difficulty if in long transit times.
3. Cheat 1x daily: Ideally a lean and green diet is advocated for, but for the summer celebrations, try to limit the high calorie or carb meal, if you must indulge, try to eat just one of those meals per day, rather than a whole day of being glutinous.
