Meditation
the pathway to excellent health

I hesitate to use the word meditation. To me, as well as many others, the word "meditation" conjures up the picture of a bearded man sitting cross-legged in front of an entrance to a cave or high on a mountain top. Climbing the mountain and reaching him is part of the arduous journey toward self-fulfillment, self-improvement. Once we find him we ask, "What is the meaning of life?" or "How do we achieve peace in ourselves and our lives?" This all-knowing man tells us the answers are "inside ourselves" and tells us to go and contemplate. I don't know if that answer was worth the journey!

Well, I am not a wise man on a mountain. I am just like you -- involved in life and work, seeking more serenity and calm in my life. I am still learning but I am finding that it is really helping me balance my life and greatly reduce my cortisol levels.

Research has shown that meditation can contribute to your physiological as well as your psychological and well-being. This is accomplished because meditation brings your brainwave pattern into an alpha state, which is the level at which healing begins.

Here are some of the benefits you can expect.

Physiological Benefits

  • Deep rest-as measured by decreased metabolic rate, lower heart rate, and reduced work load of the heart.
  • Lowered levels of cortisol and lactate-two chemicals associated with stress.

  • Higher skin resistance. Low skin resistance is correlated with higher stress and anxiety levels.
  • Drop in cholesterol levels. High cholesterol is associated with cardiovascular disease.
  • Improved flow of air to the lungs resulting in easier breathing. This has been very helpful to asthma patients.
  • Decreases the ageing process.

Meditation is very easy. I suggest you start with a breathing meditation. Sit with your eyes partially closed and turn your attention to your breathing. Breath naturally, preferably through the nostrils, without attempting to control your breath, and try to become aware of the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves the nostrils. This sensation is your object of meditation. Concentrate on your breathing until everything else seems to fade way. Continue this for 20 minutes.

I think you will notice a big difference. Especially if you continue doing it daily.

Free Weights Vs Machines To Build Muscle & Strength

So often I am asked which works better and building a better body; free weights or machines. Personally I use them both but I have found that f
ree weights provide a more complete workout. However, they also require more expertise in their use. When lifting free weights like barbells and dumbbells, not only is the prime mover or Agonist being worked but all the muscles responsible for stabilizing the joint. The result is to increase the strength of the stabilizer muscles. Greater care is required when using free weights. Improper technique can result in injury to the user or bystander if the weights are dropped.

It is important to remember to enlist the aid of a spotter whenever free weights are raised over the head. A spotter's responsibility is to insure the safety of the user during the execution of the exercise. The spotter must observe the condition of the user and try to anticipate exhaustion. The spotter must also insure that balance and an even lift is executed, that proper breathing technique is adhered to and that proper form is being executed by the user. A spotter's strength is not as important as his or her vigilance.

Machines provide a safer workout than free weights. Machines also specifically target a particular muscle automatically. It's harder to cheat during an exercise by incorporating unintentional muscle groups. However, since lateral movement is generally restricted, machines do not provide as complete a workout.

When lifting overhead with machines, a spotter is not necessary since the weights are confined to a rack and not directly overhead. Some machines are not adjustable for height or length of limbs on an individual basis. This can cause poor fit and even undue stress on joints when the supporting pressure incorrectly applied. The Biceps Curl and Triceps Concentration machines in many gyms are not adjustable and may cause undue stress on elbow joints instead of applying pressure to the back of the upper arm along the triceps.

In summary, free weights provide the best workout when a spotter is available and proper lifting technique is executed. In contrast, machines provide a better workout than could be safely achieved using free weights when a spotter is not available.

When you are working out don't forget to drink plenty of water! What I suggest is adding the juice of half a lemon or 4 tablespoons of unsweetened cranberry juice to 32 ounces of water with a sprinkle of Steviva Brand Stevia Powder . Sugar Free Low Glycemic Peach Crisp
Serves: 8
Carbs Per Serving: 6.8 g
Prep Time:<35 minutes


My sister just picked up a box of peaches this weekend from a local organic farm. And they are so amainzing.This awesome and super easy recipe takes only minutes to make and it comes at a perfect time since peaches are at the peak of their season right now. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
6-7 large peaches
juice of 1 lemon

1/2 cup sifted whole grain flour
3/4 cup rolled oats
1 teaspoon molasses
1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/8 teaspoon

1/3 cup butter

Instructions
Put peeled, sliced peaches in shallow baking dish and sprinkle with lemon juice.  Mix flour, oats, apple sauce, molasses and Steviva Brand Stevia Powder.  Cut in butter with blender.  Press over peaches.  Bake at 325° for 30 minutes or until peaches are tender.
