About Stevia

Stevia is an extraordinarily sweet herb, 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar. It is calorie free, making it excellent for diabetics, people on low-glucose diets or those simply wanting to lose weight.

What is Stevia?

Stevia is a zero-calorie sweetener derived from the South American plant Stevia Rebaudiana. When the stevia leaves are processed, using only a natural water extraction process (never any petrochemicals or bleaches!), the result is a creamy white powder, called steviosides or rebaudiosides. The result of this clean extraction process is Steviva’s delicious SteviaSweet 100% pure stevia extract.  Because it is 200 to 300 times as sweet as sugar, a very minimal amount is required.

How is Stevia better for me?

In addition to being calorie free, stevia aids in digestion and does not feed yeast or microorganisms. Stevia also has no carbohydrates and is safe for diabetics and those with hypoglycemia. Stevia does not trigger a rise in blood sugar which results in a “sugar crash” (a spike of energy followed by fatigue). Instead, stevia’s energy increase is more gradual and longer lasting.

Is Stevia safe for my family?

Despite stevia’s sweetness, it does not cause cavities like sugar. Conversely, it helps PREVENT cavities, making it ideal for children (as well as adults). Stevia is a member of the chrysanthemum family, closely related to chamomile and tarragon, and distantly related to artichokes, lettuce, safflower oil and sunflower seeds. It is completely safe and has been used for centuries by the indigenous peoples of South America, where it grows wild.
