Exchanging The Gift of Holiday Weight Gain
9 easy tips to get you skinny in the new year

If you are like me then you are looking to drop your holiday weight gain. Here are a few tips to help you say good bye and good reddens to your gut.

  1. Eat eggs for breakfast. A study in Nutrition Research found that people who egg it up consume fewer total calories the rest of the day.
  2. Stand up whenever you read or take a phone call at work. (You can also use a stand-up desk.) Standing burns 1 1/2 times more calories than sitting does.
  3. Eat it than ink it. People who kept a food log for at least 3 weeks lost 3 1/2 pounds more than those who didn't, a University of Arkansas study found.
  4. Chew your drink and drink you food. If you chew food slowly and completely you'll take in nearly 12 percent fewer calories than if you scarf it, notes an American Journal of Clinical Nutrition study.
  5. Don't eat meals in front of the TV. In a University of Massachusetts study, people who did that took in nearly 300 more calories a day.
  6. Weigh yourself each week. Three out of four successful dieters do this, the American College of Sports Medicine Health & Fitness Journal reports.
  7. Don't miss your work-out. Miss one now and you're 61 percent more likely to skip one next week, says a study in Health Psychology.
  8. Cut out the sugar: Added sugars lead to added lard, so cut them out. This week, drop the sweetest offenders—soda, baked goods, cereals, candy, fruit drinks, and ice cream. Instead try adding the juice of half a lemon to 32 ounces of water with a sprinkle of Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder. Ingredients:
4 cups double-strength brewed coffee
2 cups half-and-half or cream
3 tablespoons
Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash to taste of Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder
3 cardamom pods (or 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom)
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
ice

Directions:
Smash the cardamom pods to release its flavor and aroma. You can do this with your mortar & pestle - just gently tap the pods until the outer shell is cracked. If you don't have a mortar & pestle, place the pods on a cutting board and with a heavy chef's knife, use the bottom of the handle to smash the pod. If you don't have the pods you can use cardamom powder.

In a saucepan over medium heat, bring half-and-half or cream, Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder and cardamom pods to a simmer, turn off the heat and allow to steep for 15 minutes.

Remove the cardamom pods then add the almond extract.

Fill 6 tall glasses to the brim with ice. Divide the flavored half-and-half or cream between each of the 6 glasses.

Slowly pour the coffee into each glass.
