Sometimes when I get home from work I am staving. Well at least in the moment I think I am starving. I reach for anything I can get my hands on and start scarfing away. A few minutes later I fell full enough but, back it comes and the mindless munching begins. This is how I end up putting on weight and getting my blood sugar out of whack. Here are a few tips on keeping the hunger pangs at bay so you can beat back the battle of the bulge.
Eat a good breakfast. Your mother was right. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Not only does it give you energy to start a new day, but breakfast is linked to many health benefits, including weight control and improved performance. Many studies, in both adults and children, have shown that breakfast eaters tend to weigh less than breakfast skippers.
Remove temptation. It's time for a regime change. Clean out your cupboard and fridge, then restock them with almonds and other nuts, cheese, fruit and vegetables, and canned tuna, chicken, and salmon. By eliminating the availability of snacks that put weight on you but providing plenty that are good for you, you're far less likely to find yourself at the snack cart or vending machine.
Identify your hunger. Have a craving for sweets, even though you ate just an hour ago? Imagine eating a large, sizzling steak instead. If you're truly hungry, the steak will sound good, and you should eat something. If it doesn't sound good, your brain is fooling you. Get up, walk around, change your environment and find a different task to focus on until it passes.
