You Have Six Months to Live
living like there is no tomorrow

James Dean once was quoted to say “Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today.”

I had a conversation with somebody that is very very close to me this week [FIRST_NAME]. They had been fighting pancreatic cancer for the past few months and had won the battle. There is nothing in this world like a clean PET scan. However, they let me know that while less than a month ago they came up cancer free, two days ago they were diagnosed with stage four liver cancer. The doctor has given her six months to live. This put me into a state of shock since I have known her my entire life. This breaks my heart and I will be with her through this entire journey.

The truth is, we all are heading towards the same end. Nobody escapes it. No matter how much money you make, how much power you have, celebrity or not or who you know we are all mortal. For instance Steve Jobs. Our mortality is the common thread that connects us all. We all have a limited amount of time on this wonderful planet. It is what makes us human. What counts is what we do with the time we have here.

I have promised myself that I will:

• Take more emotional risks

• Take time to celebrate everyday as a gift

• Watch more sunrises

• Spend more time outside

• Make an effort to make the lives of people around me better

• Be completely honest with myself and others

• Breathe deeply

• Smile more

• Laugh more

• Give more

I can keep going but, you get the idea. To pay tribute to her and the gift of life I have been given, I will dream like I will live forever and live like I will die today. Won't you join me [FIRST_NAME]?

three tests to ask for to mend your mind

The mind is a beautiful thing, yet many people struggle with the health of it approximately 1 in 4 Americans suffer from various mental illnesses. Many doctors will just write up a prescription for an antidepressant, while never looking at the underlying cause of depression. There are a few common health conditions that can leave one feeling blue.

Hypothyroidism is often overlooked, due to inefficient test evaluations, and one of the many symptoms is feelings of depression. Low levels of folic acid or having a genetic defect that requires your body get the active vitamin form of folate is another potential cause for some mental disorders. Hormones that are both in men and women, cortisol can also be part of the mental madness if they aren't in proper levels throughout the day.

Difficult situations are opportunities to be our best selves, hone our skills and rise to the occasion.

Sometimes we may feel like there is just too much we need to do. Feeling overwhelmed may make it seem like the universe is picking on us, but the opposite is true: we are only given what we can handle. Difficult situations are opportunities to be our best selves, hone our skills and rise to the occasion.

The best place to start is to take a deep breath. As you do, remind yourself that the universe works in perfect order and therefore you can get everything done that needs to get done. As you exhale, release all the details that you have no control over. The universe with it‘s infinite organizing power will orchestrate the right outcome. Anytime stress begins to creep up, remember to breathe through it with these thoughts.

Then, make a list of everything you need to do. Note what needs to be done first, and mark the things others may be able to do for you or with you. Though we often think no one else can do it correctly or well, there are times when it is worth it to exhale, let go of our control, and ask for help from professionals or friends. With the remaining things that feel you must do yourself, take another breath and determine their true importance. Sometimes they are things we’d like to do, but aren’t really necessary. After taking these quick steps, you will find you have a plan laid out, freeing you from frenzied thoughts circling in your head. With calming deep breaths, you are now free to focus more fully on our priorities. Herbal teas or flower remedies along with wise choices about caffeine and food can help keep us from becoming frantic too. But with nothing further from us than our breath, we can breathe in our best intentions and let the rest go with an exhale. Keeping ourselves centered and breathing into and through life’s challenges helps us learn what we are truly capable of doing, and we will find we have the ability to rise to any occasion. Remember you aren’t being picked on, and you are never alone.

Low Glycemic Sugar Free Sweet Potato Pie
Serves: 8
Carbs Per Serving: 8.75 g
Prep Time:<55 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

White potatoes, corn, rice, and white bread all have a high glycemic index and can cause a spike and an ultimate drop in blood sugar. Diabetics and others wanting to avoid glucose highs and lows can turn to sweet potatoes, which have a low glycemic index. The sweet potato is a good source of dietary fiber, which lowers the risk for constipation, diverticulosis, colon and rectal cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity. The fiber in sweet potatoes provides a feeling of fullness and satiety, which helps to control food intake. Plus this Sweet Potato Pie is delicious.

Ingredients:
Crust

1 and 1/2 cups almond meal or almond flour
3 tablespoons melted butter
3 tablespoons Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash of Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder

Filing
2 cups cooked, mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 pounds)
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash of Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder

1 tablespoon whole grain or soy flour
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon salt
1 can (12 ounces) evaporated fat-free milk

Preparation:
Crust

Melt the butter in sauce pan and mix the ingredients up in the pie pan and pat into place with your fingertips.

Filing
Mix sweet potatoes with electric mixer in large bowl until smooth. Stir in eggs, Fructevia, Steviva Blend or Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder
, flour, lemon juice, vanilla, spices, salt and evaporated milk. Pour mixture into pastry shell.

Bake in preheated 400( F oven 40 to 45 minutes or until filling is set and sharp knife inserted near center comes out clean.

Cool completely on wire rack. Refrigerate until serving time.
