We Mortals
living every moment to its maximum

A revelation came to me the other day while on a long and steep bike ride. I realized, I am not getting out of this alive. Not the bike ride, but, life. None of us are getting out of here alive. While this is a walk we all take alone, it is also the thread of commonalty we all have. No matter how much money or how much faith you have everything living eventually passes including you. This is the downside, I guess. The reason I say guess, is that death is a great mystery to us all and has been since mans realization of himself and his own mortality. It is something we mortal face with trepidation. Life is ephemeral… short lived and they say just a flash.

All we have is right now, this moment. The past is gone and the future does not exist but, right now is our gift and that is why it is call the present. We are all in the same boat, the playing field is level, we all have the same gift… being in the present.

Making the Most of our Present
Since right now is all we have, it would make since that we should make the most of what we have, right now.

Here are some great tips that may inspire you to maximize your human experience. If nothing on this list rings true for you, create your own list and begin now.

Start a business
I come from a long lineage of entrepreneurs. And while breaking out on your own can be a feast or famine situation the sense of freedom is creates is priceless.

Starting a business puts you in control of your work life, and your money. It’s hard ; small businesses fail every day. But the rewards of even a failed venture can far outweigh the risk. Just knowing that your failure was the result of your own choices instead of a decision made at a corporate office a thousand miles away can be liberating.

Organize a group
What makes you passionate? Chances are, being around other people who are passionate about the same thing would make you even more passionate about it. Often the only thing keeping you and them from coming together is that nobody’s put out a sign saying “Come and talk!” Getting a group going has never been easier with the like of web sites like MeetUp.com. login and check it out. Seeing a group grow and take off can be tremendously awarding. Even if you group does not take off it can teach you amazing lessons in leadership.

Volunteer
I don’t mean for you to spend your holidays at a soup kitchen, though that can often be rewarding yet challenging enough. Make a long-term investment in your community by joining school committees, donating three hours a week in a shelter, hosting a monthly read-along at the library, tutoring at-risk children after school, teaching adult literacy classes, or any of a million ways to play a role in the lives of people who need you. Perhaps the most pressing need in our society is for people to take an interest in and engage with their communities.
Take an active role in your children’s’ activities. Pick one thing your child does and commit yourself to it. Coach their team, spend a weekend day in the workshop with them, buy a bike and ride along with them; make their passions your own. Don’t crowd them, especially if you have teenagers but, show them that you value what they do and who they are by giving them your time and undivided interest.

Write a book or blog
It feels really, really good to see your name on a book cover or on the header of a blog, but it feels even better to know that someone, somewhere, might find his or her life changed by something you’ve written. Share your particular expertise, whether it’s story-telling or woodworking, with the world or just your family. Commit yourself to a page a day, a couple hundred words and within a year you’ll have a pretty decent-sized manuscript. Think it and ink it!

Learn an art
Take painting lessons, a glass blowing workshop, music classes… whatever interests you. Learn to express yourself and you will find a self worth expressing. Don’t settle for being a second rate, devote yourself to an art and master it.

Run for office
The world needs smart, dedicated, and honest people to take care of all the details of making society run. As it happens, running for local office isn’t as challenging as you’d think. Filmmaker and director, Michael Moore, ran for school board while he was still in high school and won. It’s fine to have your sights set on the White House or Capitol Hill, but take a shot at city councilperson, county registrar, or something closer to home first. You can do it.

Take up a team sport
Sure, you want to be healthy, but the whole Stairmaster and stationary bike thing is a little anti-social. Add a team sport to the mix… something you do with other people. You’ll be spending time interacting with others, while also developing team building and leadership skills.

Set an outrageous goal and accomplish it
The tips above are only a handful of ideas about how to maximize your human experience. Maybe you want to record an album, climb a mountain or see 20 countries, don’t just settle for small goals, push yourself all the way to the edge and figure out how to make the most farfetched thing you can think of a reality. You will have to learn a lot along the way, and plan months or even years in advance, that’s what makes massive goals worthwhile.

Be in the moment with all things, welcome life’s grand experiences in, embrace them and above all create your own reality.

Here's to your rich beautiful life.

Thank you for your patronage.

Have a sensational week!

YOUR MIND

Success Can Come From Hardship
Max Steingart

The world is so constructed that if you wish to enjoy its pleasures, you must also endure its pains. Like it or not, you cannot have one without the other.

Success is not measured by what you accomplish. It's measured by the opposition you encounter, and the courage with which you maintain your struggle against the odds.

You'll find all things are difficult before they are easy. The greater your obstacles, the more glory in overcoming them. So, make up your mind before you start that sacrifice is part of the package.

No pain, no gain;
No thorns, no throne;
No cross, no crown.

You've got to go through the negative before you get to the positive.

YOUR BODY

Seeds for Health
how do they help your hormones

Did you known that both men and women have hormones that circulate throughout the month [1]  and can correlate with nature's cycles, such as the moon? A woman's 28 day menstrual cycle, often syncs with the 28 day moon cycle. What happens during the month for women is that 4 main hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone, Follicle Stimulating Hormones (FSH), and Lutenizing Hormones (LH)) are waxing and waning just like the moon during that time. When these hormones aren't in harmony symptoms such as PMS, infertility, low libido, hot flashes, mood swings, and more, and again both men and women can suffer from some of these hormonal fluctuations.

The New Moon, often on a calendar is indicated as a black circle, ideally women should be on day 1 of their cycle, or menstruating. At this time estrogen and progesterone are low and FSH is on the rise trying to prepare this follicle to turn into an oocyte. Around mid-cycle, approximate day 14-15, ideally would correlate with the full moon, indicated on a calendar as an clear circle, and a woman would be ovulating, and the LH would be high, causing the release of progesterone, which is helpful to prepare and maintain a pregnancy. When pregnancy does not occur, progesterone drops and the unfertilized egg gets shed, and that is back into day 1. [2]

One way to help regulate this cycle of hormones is through your diet, both men and women can benefits from what a variety of seeds have to offer. Seeds have a constituent called ligans and are high in essential fatty acids, both of which help with hormonal pathways. The month is divided up into two phases and you eat a mixture of freshly ground  (at home in a coffee grinder) according to what phase it is, new moon to full moon, or full moon to new moon. Consider adding to a smoothie, protein shake, applesauce, salad, etc. You can grind up a few days worth and store in a closed jar in the refrigerator. Seeds can be purchased in the bulk section of stores.

For women days 1-14 of their cycle (if regular and known) NEW MOON TO FULL MOON: (Hint: think out with the “old” i.e. endometrium lining is shedding and menstruation is beginning with the preparation of the “new”): 1-2 Tablespoons per day of a combination of ground flax and pumpkin seeds.

Days 15-28 FULL MOON TO NEW MOON: (Hint: this is time of ovulation, perhaps a “full” feeling with possibility of pregnancy): 1-2 T per day of a combination of ground sunflower and sesame seeds

For men, the schedule is opposite of the women's: NEW MOON TO FULL MOON: 1-2 T per day of a combination of ground sunflower and sesame seeds. FULL MOON TO NEW MOON: 1-2 Tablespoons per day of a combination of ground flax and pumpkin seeds.

When it comes to your health, remember everything is intertwined. Hormonal problems don't just effective reproductive problems, they also have a great impact on your brain function, bone health, and cardiovascular system. Take care of your body and your body will take care of you!

YOUR SPIRIT

Recognizing Happiness
Analyzing the Path
by Madisyn Taylor

When we take the time to recognize when we are happy and what that feels like, it becomes easier to recreate.

Those of us on the path of personal and spiritual growth have a tendency to analyze our unhappiness in order to find the causes and make improvements. But it is just as important, if not more so, to analyze our happiness. Since we have the ability to rise above and observe our emotions, we can recognize when we are feeling joyful and content. Then we can harness the power of the moment by savoring our feelings and taking time to be grateful for them.

Recognition is the first step in creating change, therefore recognizing what it feels like to be happy is the first step toward sustaining happiness in our lives. We can examine how joy feels in our bodies and what thoughts run through our minds in times of bliss. Without diminishing its power, we can retrace our steps to discover what may have put us in this frame of mind, and then we can take note of the choices we’ve made while there. We might realize that we are generally more giving and forgiving when there’s a smile on our face, or that we are more likely to laugh off small annoyances and the actions of others when they don’t resonate with our light mood.

Once we know what it feels like and can identify some of the triggers and are aware of our actions, we can recreate that happiness when we are feeling low. Knowing that like attracts like, we can pull ourselves out of a blue mood by focusing on joy. We might find that forcing ourselves to be giving and forgiving, even when it doesn’t seem to come naturally, helps us to reconnect with the joy that usually precedes it. If we can identify a song, a picture, or a pet as a happiness trigger, we can use them as tools to recapture joy if we are having trouble finding it. By focusing our energy on analyzing happiness and all that it encompasses, we feed, nurture, and attract more of it into our lives, eventually making a habit of happiness
