Love Life
how's your life love?

It has been said by several wise men and sages particularly of which is Wayne Dyer, that a human life is simply the sum of all of our experiences and choices. Good, bad, happy or sad our lives are filled with rich vibrant experiences that make us… well, us. How you chose to perceive these experiences is what determines if we interpret our life as a gift of a curse.

Yesterday morning I gave one of my neighbors and her dog a ride to the airport. She was leaving her husband because of his horrible alcoholism. For her it is a bitter sweet new beginning for him a tragic end. As they waited curbside for me to pick them up I suddenly found myself moved by the realization that he had chosen his mistress, addiction, over his family, friends, wife and life. It is a powerful hold she has over him.

This moment was one of my life's rich experiences and made me take pause, learn and be thankful for the choices I have made. Every day is different. Every moment gives us an opportunity to start a new, to forgive, to let go, to move on, to love life. Buddhist monks say that life is as rare as tossing a ring into the sea and having land around a turtle's neck. Embracing life's preciousness helps us see what an amazing gift it is to have our human experiences. A rainy day for some might seem gloomy but, for others it may be perceived as a nourishing benign mist that keeps the plants green and the air clean and sweet. Everything is fluid and very temporary, life doesn't last forever and neither do situations. Developing the skill of reframing our experiences into just what they are, a long list of experiences both good and bad that make up our journey, helps us see the big picture. It is for you to determine whether this picture constitutes a good life. But, considering all life is precious and good, great in fact, if you ponder it for a while you just may see life's true elegance and grace begin to unfold.

As for the man who lost his wife, recovery is a long and winding road. But, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step or in this case twelve steps.

Have a sensational week!

YOUR MIND

All Great Achievements Take Time
Max Steingart

Every big accomplishment is a series of little accomplishments. To achieve maximum success you must accept that progress is made one step at a time.

A building is built one brick at a time. Football games are won one play at a time. A business grows bigger one customer at a time. You walk over the highest mountain one step at a time.

Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. Nothing great is created suddenly, any more than a bunch of grapes or an apple miraculously appears.

If you want to grow an apple, you must give it time. There must be time for it to blossom, bear fruit and then ripen.

That which grows fast, withers as rapidly. That which grows slowly, endures.

YOUR BODY

The Single Most Important Thing for Your Health
the breathe of life

Inhale, exhale, yes BREATHING, is the most important thing! Without oxygen, your system collapses with unconsciousness in 10 seconds, and brain cells are destroyed in 4-6 minutes. While most of us our breathing, since it is part of our autonomic nervous system, we don't have to be concerned about becoming brain dead, however, many experience fatigue or decreased mental acuity which can be increased with some simple changes with breathing correctly.

Have you watched a baby, cat or dog breathe? You will notice that they breathe with their bellies. Somewhere between adolescence and adulthood, we become chest breathers instead, possibly due to the “hold in your gut” phenomena. If you are sucking in your stomach, it is harder to suck in air simultaneously. Also, anxiety and other problems can make people become more of a chest breather v.s. the belly breather, which we should all be.

Do this simple exercise to test what type you are, right now: Take both your hands, place one on your chest, and other on your stomach. If you can consider doing this with a partner so you can get feedback. Now with your hands still in place, take a deep breathe in. Did you notice which hand moved first? Repeat inhale if necessary. So, if your top hand moved first, you are a chest breather, if your bottom did, congratulations, you are a belly breather! If you are a chest breather, your goal is to take a deep breath with the intention that you will fill up your diaphragm (above your stomach) and that after a little practice, you will be an unconscious belly breather, as in you will later just do it, naturally!

Breathing is beneficial to not just your brain and mental capacities, but to every cell in your body! Each day make an effort to take at least 10 deep breaths, perhaps upon rising, bed time, or even in the car! For added stress relief, take an inhale breath for 5 counts, HOLD it in for 6 counts, and release/exhale for 7 counts (feel free to change the numbers, so long as it is progressively longer time for each step, ie. 4-5-6, 7-8-9) A life coach once shared, “breathing is as easy as 1-2-3 USING 4-5-6” for the inhale, hold, exhale. You will be amazed when you first do this and how you feel a little different and more relaxed!

Breathe well to BE well!

YOUR SPIRIT

Being Open To Change

“Balance is a dynamic process; it changes with the days, the seasons, the years.”

-- Sherrill Sellman

How rigid are your routines? Do you exercise for 30 minutes, three times each week no matter how you feel?

Routines and structure can provide a valuable framework to bring discipline to our lives. At the same time, we are always changing and it’s wise to be sensitive to our physical, emotional and mental states so we can ensure that our activities truly meet our needs. We need to be willing to change our patterns when our practices no longer serve us.

“Only in growth, reform, and change, paradoxically enough, is true security to be found.”

-- Anne Morrow Lindbergh

“The smallest change in perspective can transform a life. What tiny attitude adjustment might turn your world around?”

-- Oprah

YOUR RECIPE

No Added Sugar Peach Melba Pie
Total Servings 12 slices
Serving Size 1 slice
Carbs Per Serving: 28.9 g
Prep Time:<60 minutes

Skill Level: Moderate

The timing on this recipe couldn't be better. Peaches are at the peak of their season and you guessed it, so are raspberries. This recipe isn't not a beginner level recipe but, if you apply yourself you will be able to make it and the reward for diligence is an amazing decedent dessert that will impress all who eat it.

Ingredients
For the press-in crust:
1 1/2 cups whole grain flour, plus more as needed
1/2 teaspoon Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
8 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter (1 stick), cut into small pieces, plus more for coating the pan
4 to 5 tablespoons ice water

For the filling:
2 pounds ripe peaches, pitted and cut into sixths (about 6 cups)
1/2 cup Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder
2 tablespoons molasses
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and scraped, seeds reserved (or 1 tablespoon vanilla extract)
1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 pints raspberries (about 12 ounces)
1 tablespoon xanthan gum

For the streusel topping:
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
1/4 cup all-purpose whole grain flour
3 tablespoons Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder
1 tablespoons molasses
1/8 teaspoon fine salt
4 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter (1/2 stick), cut into small pieces

Instructions:
For the press-in crust:
Coat a 9-1/2-inch deep-dish pie plate with butter and set aside.

Combine the measured flour, Fructevia, Steviva Blend or a tiny dash Steviva Brands Pure Stevia Powder, and salt in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade attachment and pulse 5 times to evenly incorporate. Add the butter and pulse until just incorporated (some large pieces will remain). Drizzle in 4 tablespoons of the ice water and pulse until moistened throughout, about 5 pulses. (Add the last tablespoon of ice water if necessary, but do not overwork the dough or it will become tough.)

Turn into the prepared pie plate. Press with floured fingers or the back of a measuring cup dipped in flour until the dough evenly covers the bottom and sides of the pie plate. Place in the refrigerator to chill, at least 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat the oven to 400°F, arrange a rack in the lower third, and place a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil on the rack. When the oven is hot, pierce the base of the crust with a fork several times, line it with a piece of parchment paper, and fill it with pie weights or dried beans.

Place the crust on the hot baking sheet and bake until dry to the touch but not browned, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from the oven, set aside the pie weights and parchment paper, and let the crust cool slightly on a wire rack. Return the baking sheet to the oven.

For the filling:
Combine the peaches, sweetener, molasses, vanilla seeds or extract, and lemon juice in a large bowl and gently mix. Add the raspberries and cornstarch and toss to coat. Transfer the filling to the crust and place the pie on the hot baking sheet. Bake until the peaches are just beginning to brown, about 30 minutes.

For the streusel/topping:
Meanwhile, combine all of the streusel ingredients except the butter in a medium bowl and mix until evenly incorporated. Add the butter and combine with your fingers, rubbing the butter into the flour mixture until mostly incorporated but some small pieces remain. Place in the refrigerator until ready to use.

When the pie is ready, remove it from the oven and reduce the temperature to 375°F. Sprinkle the streusel over top and return the pie to the oven. Bake until the filling is bubbly, the streusel is browned, and the peaches are fork-tender, about 40 to 45 minutes more. Let cool on a wire rack at least 45 minutes before slicing.
