Live Like There Is No Tomorrow
five awesome tips on getting the most out of life

It is no secret to those who know me; I am a big Foo Fighters fan. The other day I was listening to one of their song entitled These Days. http://youtu.be/zPHzknP7jNQ . I found the lyrics to be quite poignant and it made me take pause and really thing about whether I am living my life to its absolutely fullest.

One of these days the ground will drop out from beneath your feet
One of these days your heart will stop and play its final beat
One of these days the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing

There are two unique schools on thought on living life to its fullest. These create a dichotomy. The Buddhist philosophy would have us believe that we should not be in such a rush and take time to smell the roses and be in the moment. I get this. I am suggesting that we live every moment as though it were our last and while doing so stay completely in the moment of the experience.

Here are five tips to get the most out of your human experience while staying firmly in the present.

•  Fight the Fear With Faith. All of us are plagued with fear on some kind. Fear of failure, fear of falling, fear of intimacy, fear of not being good enough. Fear serves us no good. Whether it is faith in a higher power or faith in you, faith helps temper our fears. Faith helps us believe that we will make it through the moment that is trying the most. Take a minute to take a look at your fears, feel them, embrace them, write them down and ponder them, now release them. You will not need them any longer. Come up with an action plan on how you are going to overcome them.

•  Create a Bucket List. For those of you who are not familiar with a bucket list, it is simply a list of things you want to do or accomplish before you kick the bucket. My sister Gina is perhaps the person whom I draw my biggest bucket list inspiration from. Gina is a person who honors her bucket list and lives her life to the fullest. Last year she climbed Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua. This coming year, 2013 she she is climbing Everest the highest mountain in the World. Take out a piece of paper and start writing down all of the experiences you want to have before you time is up. Get creative and put no limitations on yourself. The crazier the better. Look at this list daily and envision taking the steps to accomplish this list in its entirety.

•  Rally The Forces. No man is an island. Once you have made the commitment to live your life to its fullest bring in your support time. Draw people into your life and your commitment that will encourage you and even hold your feet to the fire if you start getting off track. You can even make it public if you want on your Facebook page or whatever social media you use.

•  Keep a Record of Record Breaking. Ink it. Once you start living your life to the fullest journal it. On days that you feel you can't move forward and you are stuck in the mud you can look back and see that you have made amazing progress and this lull will too pass.

•  Pay it Forward. Once you are on your path to fulfillment share it with others. Inspire them through your actions and accomplishments. Encourage friends, family, contemporaries and acquaintances with your kind words of support. This creates Karma and will make your experiences even sweeter yet.

Most changes do not happen overnight but, don't rule them out if they do. What I am saying is cut yourself a break if you aren't knocking your list out at the rate you would like. Keep your eye on the prize and keep pressing forward. Eventually your will get there and it will be awesome. Pat yourself on the back and know you have just lived your life to its fullest.

Thank you for your patronage.

Have a sensational week!

YOUR MIND

Nothing External Has Power Over You
Max Steingart

Great things are accomplished when you believe that what's inside of you is superior to your circumstances. What you have outside you counts less than what you have inside you.

You're more important than any of your problems. You're bigger than anything that can happen to you.

Courage is a special kind of knowledge. It's the knowledge of how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared.

True courage is a result of reasoning. A brave mind is always impregnable.

Reality is something you rise above.

YOUR BODY

Five Steps to Celebrate Healthy Aging Month

Each month there are approximately half a dozen to a dozen health awarenesses to observe. September is a special month in that it generally represents a starting over. This is the ending of summer and the start of fall, a season that is about letting go. Further it is the start of school for many children and college students. September is not only a month for the youth, but also those who are over the proverbial “hill”, with the recognition of “Health Aging®”  Month. The linked organization promotes the best there is for all things aging: mental, physical, social, and financial.

With respects to the body, what are the keys to success for healthy aging? Prevention is the best medicine for your not only your physical health, but financial is well! Maybe you're past the the prevention and need to make progress in your health, no matter where you are at, these are 5 steps that will lead your path to wellness.

1. Sleep: Most adults need 7-9 hours per night of good quality shut eye time. For your body, this is when it is restoring and recovering from all the stressors of the day. Your muscles are relaxed, your blood pressure drops, hormones are released that help aid in metabolism, energy and immune health. If you are having trouble look to the National Sleep Foundation  for some help. (Keep in mind, the only other bedroom activity aside from sleep, this act also provides many benefits to your body)

2. Hydrate: Do you drink enough water? Are you drinking things that dehydrate you, such as caffeinated beverages or sugary carbonated beverages? If you have trouble getting in the basic 64 ounces of pure H20, consider putting in lemon, or even fruit or veggies such as cucumber.

3. Nourish: You are what you eat. This has been and will continue to be your best medicine, as Hippocrates alluded to. Your body needs so many nutrients to carry out the basic functions. In the morning fuel your engine back up, perhaps an egg and spinach omelet. Pair protein with vegetables. Eat a snack every 2-3 hours, some nuts or a fruit. Lean and green will make you a fat burning machine! Seek help if you are feeling stuck or need some inspiration. The Worlds Healthiest Foods  is a great place to start!

4. Move: Two types of movement will be addressed here: exercise and bowel movements, a hush hush topic, but the two do interact. Your body is comprised of approximately 640 muscles that need to be used, otherwise loosed! Back in the day before gyms, and still to this day in other parts of the world, there was no need for “exercise” it was a built in part of daily life. Walking, farming, and other chores necessary for existence. Movement is still necessary for optimal aging. Now, your taking these steps because you're on the path to good health right? Well, this path is paved with “good intestines”. Meaning if you aren't eliminating daily the waste products that are in your body, it will suffer.

5. Measure: That what gets measured gets done! When was your last visit to your holistic doctor? Do you know if your blood sugar and cholesterol are in the healthy range? Keep a log of these baby steps you are doing so you can measure your progress and outcomes!

Increasing your chronological age is inevitable, but the way you do it is up to you! Your health is not just about you too, its about your family, friends, and  society who all want you to thrive, not just survive. Change starts with you!

YOUR SPIRIT

Honoring Your Personal Worth

Your worth is not a product of your intelligence, your talent, your looks, or how much you have accomplished.

Though much of who and what we are changes as we journey through life, our inherent worth remains constant. While the term self-worth is often used interchangeably with self-esteem, the two qualities are inherently different. Self-esteem is the measure of how you feel about yourself at a given moment in time. Your worth, however, is not a product of your intelligence, your talent, your looks, your good works, or how much you have accomplished. Rather it is immeasurable and unchanging manifestation of your eternal and infinite oneness with the universe. It represents the cornerstone of the dual foundations of optimism and self-belief. Your worth cannot be taken from you or damaged by life’s rigors, yet it can easily be forgotten or even actively ignored. By regularly acknowledging your self-worth, you can ensure that you never forget what an important, beloved, and special part of the universe you are.

You are born worthy—your worth is intertwined with your very being. Your concept of your own self-worth is thus reinforced by your actions. Each time you endeavor to appreciate yourself, treat yourself kindly, define your personal boundaries, be proactive in seeing that your needs are met, and broaden your horizons, you express your recognition of your innate value. During those periods when you have lost sight of your worth, you will likely feel mired in depression, insecurity, and a lack of confidence. You’ll pursue a counterfeit worth based on judgment rather than the beauty that resides within. When you feel worthy, however, you will accept yourself without hesitation. It is your worth as an individual who is simultaneously interconnected with all living beings that allows you to be happy, confident, and motivated. Because your conception of your worth is not based on the fulfillment of expectations, you’ll see your mistakes and failures as just another part of life’s journey.

Human beings are very much like drops of water in an endless ocean. Our worth comes from our role as distinct individuals as well as our role as an integral part of something larger than ourselves. Simply awakening to this concept can help you rediscover the copious and awe-inspiring worth within each and every one of us.
