how a few hours in the sun can change your life

The health of the public is being put at risk by recommendations to cover up and stay out of the sun. These recommendations, which are part of Cancer Research SunSmart program, increase the risk of several types of cancer, and may also increase deaths from melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.

Increased exposure to sunlight or greater intake of vitamin D has been found to reduce the risk of five common cancers in case/control studies. These are cancer of the colon, breast, ovary, prostate and lymphoma. Additional evidence based on differences in incidence of cancer in northern versus southern states of America have found that some 16 or more different types of cancer are less common in the sunny south.

For example, the risk of prostate cancer, which causes some 100,000 deaths a year has been found to be reduced by sunbathing. And sunburn in childhood is even associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer, presumably because people who become sunburned have greater exposure to the sun.

Some 50 per cent of people obtain insufficient vitamin D which increases their risk of cancer and other diseases. Sunlight is the major source of vitamin D. Only small amounts are obtained in foods such as eggs, butter or margarine, meat, some breakfast cereals and oily fish. Vitamin D supplements do not provide enough extra vitamin if taken at the usually recommended levels.

Here's a quick and easy way to estimate your fitness level. This was developed by Kasari and is gives you a fitness score that is indicative of aerobic fitness.

Calculate your fitness score by multiplying your score for each category (score = intensity x duration x frequency). For example if you walked at a moderately heavy intensity for 40 minutes, five days per week, you would multiply 3 x 4 x 4. Your fitness score would be 48 and your fitness level would be "fair."

All Natural Sugar Free Holiday Wassail (A Holiday Tradition)
(makes 18 servings)

Wassail is defined as a salutation or toast given in drinking someone's health or as an expression of good will at a festivity. The drink used in such toasting was commonly an ale or wine spiced with roasted apples to have with or after the Holiday dinner. It's one of our great Holiday traditions
and I invite you to make it one of yours.

2 cups Steviva Brand Stevia Blend
or a very small dash of Steviva Brand Stevia Powder
4 cups water
2 cinnamon sticks
1 slice fresh ginger root
4 cups orange juice
2 cups lemon juice
8 cups apple juice
8 whole allspice berries
1 tablespoon whole cloves

In a large saucepan, combine sugar and water. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and add cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, cloves, and ginger. Cover and let stand in warm place for 1 hour.

Strain liquid into a large pot. Just before serving, add juices and cider and quickly bring to boil. Remove from heat and serve.

Option: Add good Brandy to taste
