A Walk In The Sun for The Health of It
a long walk with bright sunshine can save your life
The health of the public is being put at risk by recommendations to cover up and stay out of the sun. These recommendations, which are part of Cancer Research SunSmart program, increase the risk of several types of cancer, and may also increase deaths from melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.
Increased exposure to sunlight or greater intake of vitamin D has been found to reduce the risk of five common cancers in case/control studies. These are cancer of the colon, breast, ovary, prostate and lymphoma. Additional evidence based on differences in incidence of cancer in northern versus southern states of America have found that some 16 or more different types of cancer are less common in the sunny south.
For example, the risk of prostate cancer, which causes some 100,000 deaths a year has been found to be reduced by sunbathing. And sunburn in childhood is even associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer, presumably because people who become sunburned have greater exposure to the sun.
Some 50 per cent of people obtain insufficient vitamin D which increases their risk of cancer and other diseases. Sunlight is the major source of vitamin D. Only small amounts are obtained in foods such as eggs, butter or margarine, meat, some breakfast cereals and oily fish. Vitamin D supplements do not provide enough extra vitamin if taken at the usually recommended levels.
So... grab a loved one and take a long walk in the Sun and soak up the rays of life.
Thank all of you for your patronage.
Have an excellent day.

YOUR MIND
Accept Change With A Smile
Max Steingart
Sooner or later you'll experience a crisis in your life,
and how you meet it will determine your future happiness and success.
Since the beginning of time,
everyone has been called upon to meet such a crisis.
A closer look will show you that most "crisis situations"
are opportunities to either advance or stay where you are.
In fact, most changes in your life will take place
out of either "inspiration" or "desperation."
Whatever comes your way,
give it meaning and transform it into something of value.
Your personal growth is the process of responding positively to change.
A precious stone cannot be polished without friction,
nor humanity perfected without trials.
YOUR BODY
Save Money And Calories By Brown Bagging It
Brown bagging your lunch to work or school can shave unwanted calories from your diet plan. But it does more than just protect your waistline. It adds more nutrients to your diet, and leaves more money in your pocket!
Most foods prepared by restaurants, traditional or fast food, pack a wallop of calories, fat and sodium. There are a few healthy choices out there, but even when you aim for a low calorie meal, you often miss the mark. A typical fast food meal consisting of a hamburger, medium fries and medium soft drink contains a whopping 800 calories and 25 grams of fat.
Still want a burger? Brown bag a meatless burger with sliced tomatoes, lettuce and pickles. Skip the mayo and use flavorful mustard and ketchup. Throw in some baby carrots and fresh fruit and you're looking at a mere 350 calories and 4 grams of fat.
And while this lunch contains fewer calories, it packs in more vitamins and minerals. Plus you'll have time for that walk that you never seem to be able to fit into your lunch break.
When making lunches, use fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein to keep you energized. If morning time is hectic for you, try packing your lunch while waiting for supper to cook. And when preparing vegetables for dinner, place some in a container for lunch.
I love to cook a little extra at dinner and re-invent it as lunch.
And there are many frozen food items that fit nicely into a lunch bag -- just look at the nutrition facts panel to make sure they are low in calories, fat and sodium.
Packing your own lunch can be quick and easy, and save a lot of money. So splurge a bit and buy a reusable lunch tote. You won't exactly be "brown bagging it," but it will have the same affect on your waistline and pocketbook.
YOUR SPIRIT
Be Open To Change
“Balance is a dynamic process; it changes with the days, the seasons, the years.”
-- Sherrill Sellman
How rigid are your routines? Do you exercise for 30 minutes, three times each week no matter how you feel?
Routines and structure can provide a valuable framework to bring discipline to our lives. At the same time, we are always changing and it’s wise to be sensitive to our physical, emotional and mental states so we can ensure that our activities truly meet our needs. We need to be willing to change our patterns when our practices no longer serve us.
“Only in growth, reform, and change, paradoxically enough, is true security to be found.”
-- Anne Morrow Lindbergh
“The smallest change in perspective can transform a life. What tiny attitude adjustment might turn your world around?”
-- Oprah
